From the UK to Brazil: Harry Rennie’s IDA Experience

April 9, 2026
At just 19 years old, Harry Rennie made a decision that many young players only think about – stepping outside his home environment to pursue football development in one of the most demanding and passionate football cultures in the world.

Through the IDA Brazil Player Experience, Harry became the first player to participate in the program, training in the professional environment of Cruzeiro and immersing himself fully in Brazilian football and culture.

A Different Path

Harry’s football journey began early.

That return came with a bold decision – leaving the UK to train in Brazil.

“I’ve always wanted to play football in Brazil and experience the different coaching styles here. And off the pitch, to immerse myself in the culture.”

What he didn’t expect was to be the first.

“I felt very grateful. I was honestly shocked when I found out I was the first to take part in the program – especially because everything was so smooth. The support made the whole transition easy.”

Stepping Into a Professional Environment

Arriving at Cruzeiro’s Toca da Raposa training facility made an immediate impact.

“I was blown away by the quality of the pitches. As soon as I saw it, I knew I was in a professional environment.”

But it wasn’t just the facilities.

“The coaching staff are just as impressive. They’re very welcoming, but they also push you beyond any limits you thought you had.”

Unlike short-term camps, the experience goes deeper.

“Being fully immersed gives you a real understanding of what’s required from professional players every single day.”

A New Level of Football

Training in Brazil quickly exposed Harry to a different level of intensity.

“The game here is much faster-paced than what I was used to in the UK. Speed and agility are essential – players have incredibly quick feet, so even finding the right moment to tackle is more difficult.”

That challenge translated directly into development.

“One of the first things I had to work on was my weak foot – shooting, passing, dribbling. It was difficult at first, but now I feel just as confident with it as my dominant foot. It’s made me much more dangerous in attack.”

The demands don’t stop during matches.

“You’re always expected to be moving, making runs, finding space. There’s no time to switch off.”

And that constant intensity accelerates growth.

“It’s pushed me past certain barriers much faster than I expected. Being around other players here also inspires new ideas – my creativity on and off the ball has improved a lot.”

Structure, Support, and Transition

Behind the scenes, the support system played a key role.

“IDA Brazil has been there every step of the way. From before I arrived to being here on the ground, they made everything clear and comfortable. I honestly couldn’t have done it without them.”

This structure allowed Harry to focus fully on development – both on and off the pitch.

Growth Beyond Football

Living in Brazil brought more than just football development.

“I’ve started learning Portuguese, which has been a great challenge. Learning a new language pushes you in ways you’re not used to.”

More importantly, it changed him personally.

“This experience has improved my confidence and mental strength. I’m much more comfortable in new environments now, even just talking to people – which is something I struggled with before.”

Why Brazil?

For Harry, the difference is clear.

“In Brazil, football is a religion. Everyone is passionate about it, and the coaches genuinely want you to improve.”

The experience also extends into the culture.

“You get exposed to things like footvolley, altinha, even capoeira – all uniquely Brazilian. And the food is amazing.”

Looking Back – and Forward

For players considering a similar path, Harry’s message is simple:

“If it’s something you’re thinking about, you won’t regret it. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences here. I only wish I had done it earlier.”

The IDA Brazil Player Experience is not just about training in a different country – it’s about stepping into a new level of football, a new culture, and a new version of yourself.

For Harry Rennie, it’s already proven to be a defining step in that journey.

For players considering a similar path, the opportunity is there.
